Ashtray info

These ashtrays are bold, heavy in weight and will not match your couch. The colors are much brighter in real life and there is no photo editing of the images. Though, I make multiples of each shape, each glaze design is one-of-a-kind. These ashtrays are functional objects that want to be seen and more importantly, always ready to be used. And, they are legal everywhere!

The process starts by designing the form using pencil and paper, sculpting the shape out of clay and then casting a plaster mold to create multiples. Next, I pound several pounds of wet clay into the plaster mold and let dry. After the initial bisque firing, they are individually decorated with a colorful pattern and then fired again in a red-hot kiln. The proprietary glazes that I use were developed when I was a visiting artist/engineer at Alfred University, New York State College of Ceramics.

The ashtrays are hand crafted by me in Portland, OR. The process takes about 5-6 weeks from start to finish. You just can't rush the process.
